  45.         Thanks to the versatility of AmigaDOS, we are able to use many
  46.         different file systems on our disks. The most popular is of course
  47.         CrossDOS (tm), but many other file systems can be found in the PD.
  48.         Adding a new file system to the Amiga is simplicity itself: just
  49.         copy a file in L:, provide a suitable mountlist, and there you go.
  50.         This works flawlessy if every physical unit is accessed by a
  51.         single file system, but if multiple file systems share the same
  52.         device, some problems arise:
  53.  
  54.         - You have to call the same unit with different names (e.g. DF0:
  55.           and PC0:) depending of the kind of disk inserted.
  56.  
  57.         - When you insert a PC disk, the Workbench shows a DF0:???? icon,
  58.           and vice versa; this can be very annoying especially for owners
  59.           of more than one drive.
  60.  
  61.         - When a file system is busy (for example during a DiskCopy), the
  62.           other file systems can still access the disk; this goes against
  63.           the concept of "inhibiting" a device.
  64.

  66.         MultiFileSystem solves all of these problems. It isn't a file
  67.         system in the usual way: it is an interface to other file systems.
  68.         When you mount it, you tell it which file systems it should use;
  69.         afterwards, when a disk is inserted, MultiFileSystem will
  70.         recognize it and pass the commands to the appropriate file system.
  71.         This means that with a single device name, for example DF0:, you
  72.         can access any conceivable file system!
  73.  
  74.         You are not limited to floppy drives, of course: I successfully
  75.         installed MultiFileSystem over a 128Mb magnetooptical drive.

  77. NEW FEATURES
  78.  
  79.         Fixed all reported bugs. It seems that version 1.0 didn't work
  80.         with the Mount command supplied with Workbench 2.1. This
  81.         incompatibility has been removed so version 1.1 should work on
  82.         all systems starting from Workbench 2.1 upwards.

  84.         New DiskCopy and Format patches, which make operations easier:
  85.         DiskCopy automatically picks the correct file system on the
  86.         destination disk; Format shows a requester asking the user to
  87.         choose which file system to use.
